Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania. It has three volcanic cones: Kibo,
Mawenzi, and Shira. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing
mountain above sea level in the world: 5,895 meters above sea level and about 4,900 meters
above its plateau base. The highest mountain in Africa and is one of the ‘Seven Summits’ of the
World.
Machame Route.
Machame route is now the most famous and better suited for adventurous people and those with
hiking experience. Minimum days required for this route is 6 days though seven days can be
recommended. And if you’re interested in a scenic view and hiking challenge Machame is the
best combination
Our guide will pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) Or Arusha Airport (ARK) and take you to our office in Arusha. As local Tanzanians, our guides know well the country and Arusha city, so you’ll be in good hands from when you arrive to the moment you leave. You will have our free accommodation at ARUSHA TOURIST INN HOTEL (Center of City near big supermarket and ATM’s and Shopping areas)
We’ll begin the tour with a drive from Arusha to the Machame Gate, which will take around 50 minutes. We’ll pass through the quaint Machame village located on the south-western slope of Kilimanjaro where your guides, cook and porters prepare and pack your equipment and supplies. You will receive a lunch pack, and you can also buy snacks and some mineral water in the supermarket found on the way or in Moshi town. After we have signed into the national park and all the formalities have been taken care of, we’ll begin our trek through the rainforest (keep your eyes out for wildlife including monkeys) on a winding trail up to the Machame Camp.
You will work up early morning at the Machame camp according to the briefing and after breakfast start climb for an hour to the top of the forest, then for 3 hours through a gentle moorland. After a short lunch and rest you continue up a rocky ridge on to the Shira plateau where you will be able to see Kilimanjaro great Western breach with its stunning glaciers. Sometimes the walls of the western Breach are draped with extensive ice curtains.
You are now west of Kibo on the opposite side of the Mountain from the Marangu Route, you will reach at the Shira campsite. The porters will boil washing water before serving lunch after having lunch you will have a short rest then you will go to see acclimatization’s after you will have crew introduction, then dinner.
Today will begin with a trek towards the Lava Tower, you will walk for 3 or 4hours to reach to the lava tower early afternoon and there you will have hot lunch and this place you will reach to the highest elevation 4600 masl this is the same with the high camp (barafu camp) (a 300ft tall volcanic rock formation), after lunch you will descent to Barranco camp for 2 hours to reach to the camp, and there you will have hot washing water after you will have tea then night you save dinner, Barranco camp its very cold during the night temperature can drop to freezing.
Today is your 1st real taste of mountain climbing. After an early morning breakfast, we’ll begin the day by heading down into a ravine before we tackle the Great Barranco Wall. It’s not a technical climb but it is steep, nearly 900ft of it. From the top, we’ll then continue our trek twisting and turning before descending sharply into Karanga Valley. After another short but fairly steep climb, we’ll reach Karanga Camp.
Barafu camp will be excited to see you after a tasty meal and about 2 to 3 hours of hike where by we’ll trek towards the route that connects with the Mweka Trail. We’ll then gradually make our way to Barafu Hut. Today, you will have completed the Southern Circuit, and the views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks here are awe-inspiring. Once we make camp, we’ll eat, rest, and prepare the bags for summit day
Your guide will awake around 23:30pm for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit, the route heads North west and you will ascend over stone scree. During the ascend many hikers feel that this the most mentally and physically challenging the part of the climb. In about six hours you will reach stella point (5756m) located on the crater rim. After enjoying the magnificent sunrise, you will continue ascending for about one hour on snow covered trail to uhuru peak (5895m) reaching the summit of mountain Kilimanjaro is a life time accomplishment, you will able to spend a short time in the summit taking photograph and drinking tea before the descend to Barafu. Begin the hike back down to Barafu camp take about two hours at camp you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After eating you will continue descending to mweka hut (3100m); Is in the upper rain forest so fog and rain should be expected, you will have hot washing water and dinner will be saved, after having meal you rest soundly at camp.
After breakfast, we will say goodbye to our porters and continue our descent to the Mweka Park Gate to collect our summit certificates. It can be muddy and wet during our walk to lower elevation. You’ll begin to realize how good you feel as the altitude slowly begins to drop. We will be met at the gate by our local team who will drive us back to the hotel.
